LICENSING / DISTRIBUTION
MediaPlayer version 1.0 is licensed for non-commercial use without charge. For
commercial use, please contact the author. Source code and sample multimedia
files are available for only $15 which covers media, shipping, handling costs.
Simply print the ORDERFRM.DOC form and fill it out. Then either mail or fax
it to us. We accept VISA/MasterCard and checks or money orders drawn on U.S.
banks in U.S. dollars.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
The software is stored in a compressed form to facilitate distribution. Before
using the software, you must decompress it using PKUNZIP. Typically, the name
of the compressed archive is !MEDIA.ZIP. Create a directory on your hard disk
and unzip the compressed archive there by typing PKUNZIP d:!MEDIA where d: is
the drive letter where the ZIP file resides. You may need to acquire PKUNZIP
from your favorite shareware supplier if you do not already have it.
Once you have decompressed the files, copy asterisked files shown above to
your Windows SYSTEM directory (typically C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). Then copy the
remaining files to whatever directory you desire. We recommend placing a
copy of MEDIA.EXE in your Windows directory (typically C:\WINDOWS). This
makes it easier to run. The sample and .DOC files can be stored anywhere.
PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION
To print the documentation, move to the directory in which you copied the
.DOC files, and type PRINTDOC to copy the documentation files to your printer.
RUNNING THE SOFTWARE
You must run MediaPlayer from within Windows. Before it will run, there are
two prerequisites: (1) files marked with an asterisk in the file listing above
must be installed in the Windows SYSTEM directory and (2) VBRUN300.DLL must be
installed in the Windows SYSTEM directory. If you do not yet have VBRUN300.DLL
you can obtain it from our BBS without charge. The file name to download is
VBRUN300.ZIP. The remaining files are all included in this archive. Once you
have met the prerequisites, you can run MediaPlayer from within the Program
Manager by pressing ALT-F then R to run a program. Type MEDIA.EXE when
prompted for the file name (assuming .EXE file is in the Windows directory).
Click on the Open File button to select a multimedia file to play. Notice at
the bottom of the common dialog window is a pull-down to choose file types.
The default is .WAV files, but you may click on the arrow to switch to .AVI
files. One .AVI file and several .WAV file samples are included for demo
purposes. Additional samples are available if you order the source code.
